Describe the photograph you want
A generated portrait can look polished without matching the casual photograph you intended. Instead of adding more broad style adjectives, describe the framing, light and action you want to see.
This guide offers four ways to make that brief more specific, illustrated with curated entries from the LocalBanana gallery. These are writing examples, not a test of model quality or audience response.
Three things to inspect in the result
1. Light direction. Look at the highlights and shadows. Do they fit the window, ceiling light or flash described in the brief? A casual image can have several light sources; it does not need to follow one universal lighting formula.
2. Viewpoint and framing. Decide whether you want a close phone-camera view, an arm's-length selfie or a more distant portrait. Describe camera distance and angle directly. Device names and focal-length terms are visual cues in a prompt, not a guarantee of physical lens simulation.
3. The moment. Check the gesture, expression and crop. A candid look can include movement or imperfect framing, but adding random defects does not automatically make an image convincing.
Step 1: Describe the viewpoint
Describe the viewpoint first. You can add a device or focal-length reference as a creative cue, but inspect whether the resulting perspective actually matches your intention.
The prompt names iPhone 15 Pro Max, 24mm, 9:16, night, apartment stairwell — geometry and conditions first, mood last.

Step 2: Describe the source and direction of light
"Soft lighting" tells the model nothing about where the light is. Name the source, the side it comes from, and what it fails to reach.
Morning light on a bed: the prompt fixes hair texture, stray strands and light quality as separate slots rather than one adjective.

Choose light that fits the scene. These descriptions specify different directions and falloff patterns; they are starting points for inspection, not measured improvements over studio lighting.

Step 3: Specify the action
"Confident pose" leaves the body position open. An action such as reaching for a cup or turning toward someone makes the intended moment more specific.
Mid-step, side-on, reacting to being photographed — a moment with a before and an after, which is what candid actually means.

Why do my AI photos look fake on Instagram?
There is no single cause. Inspect light and shadows, perspective, skin and material texture, anatomy and gesture. Revise the specific mismatch you see. A phone name or focal-length term is a cue, not a guarantee that the frame will have accurate camera geometry.
What aspect ratio should I generate for Instagram?
Choose the composition for the exact placement and check Instagram’s current upload preview before publishing. A 4:5 or square composition can be a starting point for a feed image, while a tall composition may suit a full-screen surface. These are design options, not a claim about the platform’s maximum supported ratio. Leave margin for any crop.
Which model is best for realistic Instagram-style photos?

Should I write selfie prompts as JSON?

Can I use my own face?
If your selected model accepts reference images, upload a photo you have permission to use and state which identity features should remain. Compare the result with the original. A preservation instruction cannot guarantee an exact likeness, and changing pose or expression can introduce drift.
